The ghost of a dead woman stays with a random family in Singapore waiting for her reincarnation, while her ageing parents, despite their sadness about her death, resume their lives. Another woman travels to New York where, with the last letter from her lover to guide her, she immerses herself in memories of their abruptly broken relationship. And a Singapore immigrant in Taiwan searches desperately for a way to tell his wife that his wife about his illness and remorse.
John Clang – so far best known as a photographer – mainly points his lens at everyday moments, which seem to have been taken from the lives of his non-professional actors. The feeling of isolation evoked by his observing images fits in with the in-between world in which his characters are imprisoned. At the same time, he sketches in serene black-and-white the contours of an earthly existence that transcends time and space, life and death.
