Nooran is a traditional medicine woman belonging to a singing community in Rajasthan. Their belief says that scorpion’s deadly sting ignites a melody in the victim’s blood, and only a healing singer who can sing a counter-melody to the patient’s blood pulse can save the dying person. Aadam, a camel trader played by one of the most versatile of Indian actors, Irrfan Khan (The Lunchbox), falls desperately in love with the beautiful scorpion-singer Nooran, played by alluring Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (About Elly).
The distinctive cinematic language of the director, certainly one of the most poetic and inspirational voices in world cinema, tenderly touches upon the strongest motives behind human behaviour: love, vengeance and enmity. This mesmerising, multilayered tale confronts us with the choices we make in life; to react, either with poison or with a song.
