All day long, LantarenVenster is dedicated to Area Code 010 (Rotterdam). In every theatre, non-stop screenings with the best of what is being made right now in the city on the River Maas, and things we are looking back on nostalgically. Fresh work, YouTube gems and music videos. But also special archive material, nostalgic works and a couple of real classics. From filming tram drivers to Ice Cube on West-Kruiskade. Docs, features, art – all from Rotterdam.
Two films are having their world premieres: Sleutelaar is hier by Stephan Warmenhoven, about the poet Hans Sleutelaar, and René Hazekamp’s Gangway to a Future, about a group of Rotterdammers who try to save boat refugees. We see the changing city through the eyes of the art and music scene, with films like Saxman (Carel van Hees & Martijn ’t Hart, 1995), Rotterdam, eenongemakkelijksprookje (Lydia Schouten & Gina Kranendonk, 2001) and Nighttown (Marcel Haug, with music by Mike Redman, 2010). The artist Gyz La Rivière is guest in Talk of the Town, where he will interpret stunning Rotterdam film shots.
There are also short films and music videos and two special installations by Rince de Jong (Zij zijn) and Ari Versluis (Dark Corners). In addition, a group of Rotterdam poets is providing an ode to the city to accompany the restful, hypnotic YouTube videos Tram Tales by tram driver Rodney Luxemburg. The makers of Rotterdam, I Love You are joining us to provide an update on their megaproject and the film initiative 48 Hour Film Project is holding a session on the question: how do I get my film screened at IFFR?
