La La La at Rock Bottom

A gangster and pop comedy revolving around the famous singer Shibutani Subaru. Shibutani formed part of the popular band Kanjani Eight, a kind of boy band, but then with members who really can sing and make music.
Director Yamashita Nobuhiro became known 10 years ago with another pop film, the catchy and successful Linda, Linda, Linda. In 2014, his film Tamako in Moratorium, about a young girl who doesn’t know what she wants, was screened in Rotterdam.
In La La La at Rock Bottom, these two films seem to come together. Shigeo, a petty criminal with amnesia, forms part of a band managed by the teenaged girl Kasumi. She looks after Shigeo and tries to reactivate his memory. Kasumi lives with her grandfather and takes Shigeo into their house. When his dark memories return, he’s not very happy about it.
This is not the usual run of romantic comedies; it avoids clichés and occasionally comprises bizarre moments, but also tender ones. With live performance by Shibutani Subaru after the screening on Thu 22 January
