Reflecting on the Chernobyl disaster but revealing the material nature of film, The Toxic Camera is inspired by filmmaker Vladimir Shevchenko. Filming immediately after the Chernobyl disaster, his camera became so charged with radiation it was subsequently buried on the outskirts of Kiev.
