First part of two intimate essays on the communities inhabiting the Santa Ifigênia area in São Paulo – from filmmakers to shop owners and the homeless. Edited largely from the filmmaker’s own extensive photo documentation of the neighbourhood (he was a long-time resident), these episodes may be described as bittersweet, nostalgic, quietly personal while also retaining a newsreel appearance indicative of Candeias’ experience as an industrial filmmaker. Also see A Street Called Triumph (1970-1971).
