The figure of the artist as a barometer of his epoch is traced back from Tarkovsky’s Andrei Rublev and Jarman’s Caravaggio to the more contemporary take of Ruiz on Klimt and Marry Harron on Andy Warhol. The compilation of course reveals as much about film history then about art history.
