The Ape

Falkenberg Farewell director Jesper Ganslandt used an unusual improvisation technique for his second feature in which the protagonist was above all not allowed to read a script in advance and, just like the viewer, is kept in the dark about what’s going to happen. In this way, Ganslandt created a suitably claustrophobic, almost thriller-like atmosphere for his fantastic leading man Sarri, a well-known television actor in Sweden.
A man who turns out to be called Krister wakes up covered in blood in the bathroom. What happened? Whose blood is it? While the man tries to act as if nothing is wrong, he crosses Stockholm on its way to its work, having difficulty hiding the blind panic and desperately trying to create order in the chaos in his head. The camera follows Krister as he descends into a personal hell, as if this were a first-person shooter game filmed by the Dardenne Brothers.
