Suwi
Musola Cathrine Kaseketi is greatly admired in her surroundings. Kaseketi is a film maker in Zambia, one of the poorest countries in the world. She is handicapped and yet she is one of the most prominent characters in her country.
Kaseketi also makes it possible for others to work. She was closely involved with both Forget Africa projects shot in Zambia. She can be seen in the project by Joanna Vasquez Arong, who makes a documentary portrait of her (Sunday School) and was also co-producer of the project by Jakrawal Nilthamrong (Unreal Forest).
Her first major feature, Suwi, made with Finnish support, tells an apparently autobiographical story. It’s the story of Suwilanji, a young woman who becomes handicapped after a tragic accident and sees her life changed drastically. A second protagonist is the young girl Bupe, who loses her parents to AIDS and has to survive as a street child.
Events in the film relate to many social problems. The style of the film is clearly aimed at a broad audience. Thanks to the Finnish support, the message could be put in a convincing and professional form.
