Former Tiger Award candidate and leader of the Malaysian New Wave, Ho Yuhang (Sanctuary, Rain Dogs) is back in Rotterdam with At the End of Daybreak. The source of inspiration for the story is formed by the news report on Malaysian TV about the murder of two girls. Ho Yuhang studied the case and incorporated the story in his film about a 23-year-old man who has an illegal relationship with 15-year-old girl. Through the interference of her parents, whom the police want to involve, everything gets out of hand. With a mix of professional and non-professional actors, Ho has made a crime drama with a socially critical undertone. The rigid Malaysian morals are at least partly to blame for the tragic events.
