The Devil is in love. It happened in Beirut; he looked at her and she looked at him. She was Almudena, a pretty TV reporter and it was love at first sight. Their date was unforgettable but the Devil was afraid of getting tied down when it got serious. Now, a few years later, he regrets it. But Almudena has settled down and isn't interested in a complicated affair. And certainly not with the Devil. But of course he doesn't just leave it be.
Pablo Llorca: 'All the characters in this film pass their time storytelling, or listening to stories, of every kind imaginable (spoken tales, documentary or fictional images, etc.) The boy wants his mother to tell him what she did with her day (and he will try to make her repeat it as many times as possible), TV viewers watch reality shows, and even the Devil feels the need to relate his life story. And if he cannot resist the urge… then who can? Every night he goes to the cell of a writer who is interred in a psychiatric clinic and tells him scenes which he planned or which he watched as a spectator. This happens night after night, until he reaches his story with Almudena, which is still continuing. Does he tell the writer about this because he knows he will make a fictional story out of it? Does even the Devil yearn to be a literary character and, in a futile gesture, transcend to posterity through fame?' (GT)
