Paradiso Stills - Stil Levens

The first punk wave in the rock temple Paradiso from 1980 on was recorded by the photographer Max Natkiel in his book Paradiso Stills. Some of the punks photographed were anonymous friends of Natkiel. In recent years, Jaap Pieters filmed 75 of those portrayed as they gaze motionless into the camera. His film is like a photo book that you can’t leaf through, but that has an unrelenting rhythm of three minutes and 20 seconds, the length of a Super8 roll of film, followed by the photo from the book taken more than 20 years ago. Pieters’ film is projected as a 3-screen Super8 performance with a new story playing in the head of the viewer each time. With live music by Hilary Jeffery and his occasional band Lysn.
