Keith Rowe (Various Paintings)

Keith Rowe trained as a visual artist, with his paintings featured upon most of his own albums. The paintings exhibited in Memory is a Motherfucker ‘concern themselves with music, particularly the early years and development of the free improvisation group AMM. They are visual equivalents of the guiding ideas that formed AMM, as with AMM where a performance was an exposition of philosophy, not a performance of music, though sound was its mode of transmission, here the mode of transmission is visual.’ (Keith Rowe)
