Is Cucinema a conceptual restaurant, a live performance or basically an old-fashioned happening?
The Italian cooking laboratory Cucinema experiments with film and food and investigates the processes that make celluloid and food change into cinema and gastronomy. Cucinema was founded three years ago near Rome and is made up of a varying group of visual and sound artists, among which Marco Ieie, Stefano De Angelis, Chris Blazen and Alex Mendizabal. People are also able to make their own pasta, cut vegetables and animate directly on film in the temporary culinary film laboratory. The strips of film are fixed to tables and can be processed by anyone in different ways. In the end, the resulting film is consumed with live music provided by the Italians themselves. And, as Italian pride demands, all the ingredients have been brought directly from their home country.
