Central to Struycken’s work is the alternation and changing of colour in space and time. On the basis of this, he generates computer structures which in theory are of unlimited dimensions of both space and time. This makes it feasible to design colouring to any degree of detail, extent and complexity. The ‘screensaver’ which he designed for the Bank MeesPierson, Amsterdam, and was distributed over more than 6000 computers, is characterized, by permanently changing images, so no identical screen configuration is ever generated. In a certain way, Struycken thus accomplishes the ideal of a permanently evolving light composition for the home interior, such as pioneer Nicolas Schöffer dreamt of.
