Sunami Makoto’s short works under the title of 6 Direct Movie Works is a collection made without a camera. Setting Sail shows the creation of a letter, a Chinese (Japanese) character which means ‘sea’ painted directly on film frames. About Black is black film partly painted with black to block the light and hence create a meditation on the blackness of film. Falling Blossom is a film with actual cherry blossom glued on film. Draw Lines With Sun is was made by pointing sunlight through a magnifying glass on undeveloped film. Reaching Light is a meditation about the phenomenon of light in film. We see here the projector's light itself. I'm Set Free is the latest work. The alternation of black and light makes the viewer think about film in a radically new way.
