The Lady Avenger is one of the most characteristic Taiwan Black Movies (see the documentary Taiwan Black Movies) in terms of the theme of the female avenger, and this has made it a little-known precursor to, for instance, Kill Bill. The film was made in the time when the country was joining the modern world and is largely set on a building site. It comprises an especially unpleasant rape scene and an exciting revenge scene with hidden ideology. The film is a representative example of the work of the star Liu Hsiao-fen. As with all Taiwanese Black Movies, there is at the moment unfortunately no good 35mm copy available.
