Sequel to the cinemascope trilogy previously screened at the festival. This time Tscherkassky, using montage and printer techniques, processes images from Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad & the Ugly. He studies the image and literally strips it of its original colour, form and meaning. As a result we eventually find the hero, who seems to feel he has been surrendered to the mercy of the director, in a realm of shadows. Tscherkassky describes this work as ‘an attempt to transform a romantic Western into a Greek tragedy’. Peter TSCHERKASSKY (1958, Vienna) studied philosophy, teaches film in Vienna and Linz and is co-founder of Sixpack Film.
