The Bush of the dance scene, that is how Duncan Stutterheim is occasionally described. The director and founder of ID&T and organiser of many large-scale music events has ensured that dance and many Dutch DJs have been put on the Dutch and international music map. Carin Goeijers’ documentary is however not so much about the history of Stutterheim’s company. Goeijers was interested in the present and submerges the viewer for 90 minutes in Stutterheim’s life in the period February-August 2005, in which she follows him among family and friends during preparations for the dance event Sensation White 2005. Among these are Lisca Stutterheim, Armin van Buuren, Jan Vayne, Dano and Joop van den Ende. Stutterheim’s life is characterised by hedonism, but also reveals a quest for deeper meaning. In the end, the hectic preparations and contradictions in his life culminate in a hypnotic recording of Sensation White 2005. (SdH)
