AM/PM takes its title from a 24-hour supermarket. Las Vegas, sea of light in the desert, is recorded as a money machine that works day and night. Neon, the fantasy architecture that copies all the big sights of the world, gaming rooms, hotels – everything in this city is aimed at getting you to spend money as quickly as possible. ‘Our leisure time is designed by and inculcated with corporate culture’, says Sarah Morris on the basis of AM/PM and the series of paintings. ‘Ironically enough, nothing is left to chance, even though precisely that is the lure of gambling.’ (SB)
