This production, originally made for French-speaking Belgian television, can be seen at the festival for the first time on film. The next feature film by Malandrin is expected next year: his project Où est la main de l'homme sans tête was presented last year at the CineMart. I Don't Care If Tomorrow Never Comes is another excellent production by Namen-based company La Parti, which for instance brought us the cult animation films Pics Pics André and above all Aaltra by Délépine and Kervern, produced by Malandrin. The tone of this film is a lot less humourous and is more reminiscent of the work of other French-speaking Belgians such as the Dardenne brothers and the (unsung) masterpiece Folie privée by Joachim Lafosse (screened at the festival in 2005). I Don't Care If Tomorrow Never Comes is about 40-year-old Jacques (played with impressive balance by Jacky Lambert), who has just been released from jail and tries to make contact with the son he hardly knows. He has difficulty persuading the foster parents to allow the 10-year-old boy to go on a short vacation with his real father. Several days before they are due to leave, Jacques finds Anne, the mother, who has also had no contact with her child. Jacques persuades her to go along on this unusual family reunion. Three people who don't know each other, but who try to love each other. (GT)
