Maidan captures the heart (or navel) of the still vivid multi-national, multi-religious capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, and evokes the atmosphere of good old times. Focusing on the oldest part of the town, Maidan Square, it shows the ancient centre of the Caucasus that used to be a trading place for tapestry, precious stones, silk and stories: here east and west meet. Everyday reality is pretty harsh nowadays, but people are still proud of their city and the Maidan baths. A warm and colourful mosaic of the city where film makers like Paradjanov and Iosseliani spent part of their lives. (LC)
