In the last five years, the Japanese film maker Naomi Kawase has sent images of her films to Vincent Dieutre, a fervent admirer of her work. In 2002, this French director met her at last and they agreed to meet again at the Infinity Festival in Alba. Their conversation – intercut with fragments from Kawase’s films – is about the significant themes in her (video) films, and provides an insight into her complex world. Her words are occasionally heard directly, sometimes in translation, sometimes quoted by Dieutre. The two artists seem to get along very well.
