Martin Arnold's extensive use of Hollywood material in his work displays a deep interest in Freud's idea of the uncanny, of unexpected and psychologically charged moments. By manipulating, repeating and morphing both sound and image, Arnold's work relates in a unique way to such moments. In his most recent works Deanimated - The Invisible Ghost, Forsaken and Dissociated, Martin Arnold has worked with compositing software such as Digital Fusion, Combustion, and After Effects to create film installations that are presented in digital formats. Dissociated presents two silenced 'hysterical' women from the Hollywood classic All about Eve (1950). Unexpressed emotions, repression and subliminal forces rule their stifled conversation.
