The village of Agbede is waiting for a new bride who will arrive in the evening. Everyone is in a festive mood. Odejimi is the bridegroom, Awero the bride. The parents of Odejimi have put everything into the ceremony. The young bride soon hurries with her brand-new husband to the bridal bed, while the whole village waits for the result of the virginity test. Odejimi has a white handkerchief, that has to be stained by the virginal blood of Awero. Tension rises. But there is no blood. Odejimi feels betrayed and dishonoured: the honour of his highly respected family is severely eroded. The whole village is shocked by the fiasco and the warriors of Agbede prepare for war with the neighbouring village that has sent them a 'broken pot'.
