The best American political short films and trailers touring the globe. Taking its name from the House UnAmerican Activities Commitee (HUAC), which terrorised the film industry in the 1950s with a witch hunt that blacklisted 'subversive' writers and film makers, the UnAmerican Film Festival supports films and videos that question the government and social norms, even at a time when such acts are deemed `unpatriotic'. The UnAmerican Film Festival provides a forum for discussion and education by showcasing short films that offer an alternative to mainstream media, in an era when being a politically-active, dissenting American is equated to being an 'enemy combatant'. Since its beginning as a one-time screening event that ran concurrent with the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, it has been invited to screen in over 25 cities worldwide. Festival programmers Esther Bell, Ted Passon and Joshua Katcher are in Rotterdam to present 90 inciting minutes of political shorts that will burn the American flag right off your Ralph Lauren bag. Come see hilarious satires, compelling documentaries, and startling testaments to the bizarre normalcy of America.
