A young French couple visits Cambodia for a few days. He is Cambodian on his father's side and is visiting the country for the first time, in order to try and find some trace of his family history. His wife accompanies him as a tourist. Tension grows between them when he becomes frustrated in his vain attempts to find his family, but she is fascinated by the exotic elements of the alien culture. Mekong Interior is a beautifully photographed story with autobiographical elements (the maker also has Cambodian blood), with a wonderfully layered soundtrack and extremely atmospheric music for strings.
