Dead Cat Bounce is an experimental project that uses the stock exchange with its continual fluctuations to create a theatre play filled with unpredictable rhythms. By involving the audience's money in the play, this project tries to release a new form of involvement in theatre. The fluctuations in the drama and the market parallel each other. Text and sounds are added to real stock market reports. The Internet and its stream of information in real time have changed the way of doing business on the stock market. Now everyone with a computer and an Internet connection has a direct link to every stock exchange in the world from their home. This technical progress brought a new profession: the day trader, who doesn't try to earn money with long-term investments, but by buying and selling shares day by day. What such a day trader does at home, we can also do in the theatre. The two hours just before the closing time of the stock exchange are the most fickle and show the greatest price fluctuations. This makes the time from 2 to 4 p.m. the most profitable for the day trader. These hours in New York match 8 to 10 p.m. in Europe, in other words: theatre time. While we follow the peaks and drops of the market -buying, selling, buying again, selling again -we hope to match the energy and excitement of a day at the races.
