Sophie is in her early twenties and pregnant. It isn't clear who the father is, but it certainly isn't her boyfriend Manu. The evening before her appointment at the abortion clinic, she is still having her doubts: does she want to keep the child or have it aborted? Sophie flees from the house and races around Hamburg on Manu's motorbike. This marks the start of a night of drinking and bizarre encounters. Her journey has no destination, only a finishing time: ten o'clock next morning, when she has her appointment at the abortion clinic. The confused and unpredictable Sophie keeps setting out in search of danger. For instance, she wanders into dingy bars on her own, gets into taxis without any money and bolsters her drunken state with a mixture of beer, champagne and the contents of a plundered mini-bar. Katharina Schüttler is outstanding as Sophie. With her powerful mimicry, she is able to change her emotion within a second, enabling her to reveal the vulnerability and insanity as well as the power of the character. This psychological drama shot on DV has a high tempo. One of the few tranquil moments is when she meets Manu in an Italian restaurant, a scene filled with suppressed tension. Sophiiiie! is a moving portrait of a young woman during the hardest night of her life.
