Ipanema Theories

The 'theories' from which Ipanema Theories is constructed each find their origins in an existing film fragment. Gonzalez-Foerster's greatest source of reference and point of departure for this video was the last scene of L'eclisse by Antonioni, in which the actors slowly make way for the architecture of the city. GonzalezFoerster set to work on this fragment and deconstructed it into different shots. In the final result, Antonioni's fragment cannot even be found. In each 'theory', various urban elements are juxtaposed: from street scenes and discos to skylines and neon advertising. Hong Kong, Bangkok and Kyoto are mixed into one urban environment. This soundless film will be shown once with live music.
