Our body is responsible for everything we see and hear, for every moment of pain or pleasure that we feel, every emotion, every thought, every memory. The body is life, and Bodysong is the story of that life.In this era of multimedia and the endless distribution of images, ambitious new projects are being launched that embrace other (interactive) media alongside conventional film screenings. Bodysong is an excellent and interesting example of this: Simon Pummell developed the project simultaneously as film, as web site and as exhibition.Bodysong is an extensive and meticulous montage of familiar and unknown found-footage material from all corners of the world. The film is an investigation of and an ode to human life in all its forms, from birth to death, filled with rituals, play, sex, dance and violence. This story of human existence is accompanied by a score written by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. On the extensive web site (www.bodysong.com), each image gets its own history, context and explanation. With the aid of an innovative 3D interface, people can investigate the work used from all medical photographers, war correspondents, amateur film makers, anthropologists and other image acquirers.
