The observing gaze is the common denominator in the work of Zandvliet. His paintings are concentrated representations of a car mirror, an aircraft window, a television screen, a camera lens; rather unspectacular motifs, but they all deal with looking and making visible. Zandvliet poses the question of how we perceive the world around us. He demonstrates a good sense of reality by including in his answers not only artistic traditions but also contemporary media.
