Mark Lewis: 'It seems to me that almost all art in the last century has been formed in relationship to the emergence of the cinema. Even in defiance, art has had to, and has wanted to, react and produce itself in relationship to what we might call the cinematic effect. Artists have been part of that so-called universal audience of film. They've felt its effect. They've dreamt that dream. The dream is history now, but it won't go away.'
