Shakthi, a son of the village chief Periyasam Thevar, returns with his modern girlfriend from London where he studied. He scandalises the orthodox home community with his actions. His father is disgraced by his son’s intention to marry a non-Tamil girl and to start a fast-food chain in the city. Although the son believes that the village is 200 years behind the times, he complies with his father’s request and plans to stay for a while. However, after his father’s death, which is mainly caused by the complete breakdown of the family, Shakthi decides to settle down in the village and marries a local girl. As in most mainstream Indian films, there are many sidelines to the main narrative. Still, the film sophisticatedly illustrates the collision between traditional and modern social values.
