Agnès (40) is mother of Angèle (20) and daughter of Odile (70). The three women share a degree of pain in life. Odile has reached the age of loneliness. She is looking after her father, who is about to breathe his last, and at the same time tries to repair the contact with her daughter. But Agnès demands her independence. She doesn't know who to choose, François or Hans - even though neither will rid her of her melancholy. Angèle has a passion for classical singing. Her love of music helps her to cope with her first real trial: a miscarriage. A second attempt is more successful, Angèle has a son she calls Louis. This time it is her friend Carlos who acknowledges the child. Angèle and Odile are very happy. This first full-length film by Anne-Marie Miéville reveals great creativity. Flashes of beauty, a face, a human being, music, light and sound take the viewer to a world between grace and gravity. (J.D.)
