Daniel Soutif, maker of the exhibition Le Temps, Vite (Time, Quickly) with which the Centre Pompidou in Paris opens the new millennium, saw virtually all the films of Johan van der Keuken on French television. He concluded that the films include an unparalleled variety of images of work and invited Van der Keuken to make a video installation for his exhibition, in which he would incorporate some of those images. Van der Keuken made a completely new work in which he exploited the speed of digital editing and allowed sound to play a leading role. Temps/Travail shows the work behind the movement of information - the movement of money - as it is swallowed and disappears from view. But there are also moments of beauty linked to work in life on earth.
