In Smoke Screen found images - a filmed Polygoon travel report entitled Tropical Holland - is turned into a kinetic poem by editing and combinations with her own texts. At the same time it becomes clear that there may be some kind of fiction locked into the documentary material: Could it be that the pictures of smoking Balinese children have been enacted? The title also refers to the identity of the maker, born in Indonesia and bred in Australia, living in Holland. Facing Forward is also the product of found-footage from the colonial era. Images of exotic cultures, people who stare in surprise or amazement at the camera. On the soundtrack, travel sounds and a text by Italo Calvino, an imaginary dialogue between Marco Polo and Kublai Kahn. Cradle is made up of a scene from an old film of a baby in a 'selendang' (sling), projected on a 'handkerchief', which evokes a special intimacy through the simplicity of the image and material.
