Resampling Tokyo

Geert Mul will be attending Exploding Cinema this year with Resampling Tokyo. The database of this computer controlled interactive installation comprises hundreds of digital video scenes that Mul shot in Tokyo. Which story the visitor sees, in which order, at what speed and on which of the six monitors, depends on the spot where the visitors can be found in the exhibition space. Mul developed the computer program 'Epic Generator' used here together with the V2_Lab. In an 'Epic Generator script' concepts hard to define as chance and interaction can be defined so precisely that they can be applied as parameters with which interactive installations, presentations and performances can be designed. In Resampling Tokyo Mul forges a relationship between the movements of the visitors, the theme of the video images and the 'urban sound' of the Rotterdam DJ Alien.
