Japan has several electronic magazines (e'zines) that make it possible for its audience to enjoy music, interactive animation and contemporary design on line, and that is also an alternative distribution channel for media artists. Shift has the effect that the British mag The Face had in the eighties: It does not only decide what is in , but is also a platform for a generation that is brought together in the magazine, sometimes for the first time. That can be seen in the column Co-Labo, for instance. In one of the most recent issues that title is above the result of the cooperation between shoe and clothing designer Yasuhiro Mihara and the English design collective Tomato. Shift is part of Shift Production that also publishes CD-ROMs, runs an independent on line record label and is agent for artists. Re:Tokyo is an e'zine about games, street and web culture.
