The web site KAO, by the same makers as the installation Discoder (see there), is a good example of how you can let different users cooperate on line. 'Kao' is Japanese for face: as a user you create a face of your own with the aid of an animation programme, that is then crossed by the program with that of the previous user of the site. In this way a personal and unique animation film is made with lots of unknown people. The makers: 'Characteristics of faces are passed down from generation to generation. People have for instance their mother s eyes, father s mouth and grandfather s nose. KAO, an inherited face as metaphor, has continually inherited the faces of previous generations since its inception in 1996.'
