The film industry of Singapore is a hothouse plant. Between 1991 and 1997 no more than seven features were made, but since the government took economic measures in 1998 to increase production, a film industry seems to have emerged very cautiously. Against this background Goei's Forever Fever is striking. With a minimal budget and a largely Australian crew Goei gives us a distant remake of Saturday Night Fever. The film became a gigantic hit back home and Miramax even bought the rights. Singapore in 1977. Supermarket worker Hock is taken by his friends to see the dance film Forever Fever. Inspired by this he takes dancing lessons and wants to take part in a dance contest. He wants to use the first prize of 35,000 dollars to pay for his brother to have an operation. A very charming film that proves the resilience of a film industry that was on its last legs.
