DJ Krush

DJ Krush is one of the big names in the music scene, and not just in Tokyo, but also internationally. Extraordinarily successful and productive in several fields: remixing, production, club and live sessions. He is also one of the few figures who has managed to produce a truly unique and recognisable sound based on hip-hop. In cooperation with other musicians too - he remixes work by a variety of acts, from jazz to (alternative) rock - he manages to bring out the best in others without sacrificing his own, unique style. His work is far removed from the present trend of erecting a wall of sound with an excess of samples and scratches. His latest album, Kakushei, is a kind of urban chamber music: cool, transparent and with an almost meditative rhythm that is disrupted by unexpected twists. Apparent simplicity with a very variegated structure and subtle variations in perfect balance.
