'When you wish upon a star, wake up from where you are, when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true.' Be My Baby is a video installation on three screens, in which the New York artist Ellen Cantor edits existing film material from the mass media and mainstream film into a personal story that poses universal questions about love, beauty, amazement and hope. The fragments, edited in a cyclic structure, expose the mental state of people who experience an heightening of their consciousness and ecstasy. Apollo astronauts try to express in words the transcendental experience of being in space, while on earth Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Natalie Wood and others discover comparably extreme emotions.
