Ages 5 & Up Collection

The work shown in the exhibition Ages 5 & Up has been made by the designers collective Ages 5 & Up and is characterised, as so much contemporary Japanese digital work, by its simplicity. Just as Montessori education teaches children based on the sensory characteristics of objects, the different parts of this installation are characterisd by their basic sensory nature. Beads that fall on each other, a drop you can deform endlessly or moving lines that can be distilled from sound waves and evoke a synesthetic experience: hearing with your eyes. The makers do not just want their work to be interesting and even edifying, it mainly has to be entertaining. The installation, like their CD-ROM PoPoRon included in the Screenbased Art section, shows that they succeeded in that aim.
