E-Animation is a digital animation anthology. Animation film production in Japan is highly automated. A famous personality such as Morimoto Koji, one of the makers of the most successful Manga film of all time Akira, is represented in this programme by Tokitama Hustle, made in the new and spectacular 3DCG animation style, a fusion between Computer Generated animation and ‘Japanimation’. A boy says goodbye to his screaming parents with the words: ‘Ill see you in three hundred years.’ And that is indeed the case. Morimoto’s Tekkon Kinkreet is part of a new full- length film about two orphans, Shiro and Kuro, that are known as ‘the cats’. They only have each other and ‘the city’, Treasure City, a nostalgic realistic metropolis in which they roam freely. But not for long. Spidead (an abbreviation for Spiritual Dead) by Imaitoonz is a gruesome surrealistic short animation (in red and black & white) about a baby that looks like a teddy bear, whose head splits open like Pandoras box. Game Opening Movies is a small selection of opening films for games, that strangely enough have little of anything to do with the game. Monster Game (Matayoshi Hiroshi) and Mahafushigi (Sakamoto Saku) were winners of the ‘Media Hunting’, a contest at the interface between game and animations. Finally we have to mention Blue Submarine by Maeda Mahiro, an adventure against the background of a sea level that is dramatically higher.
