A story about people without hope, who have stayed behind without a home and whose rational functioning is hindered by the terrors of life. Also a story about the desperate human need for love and friendship. And it is about the unequal relationship between their desires and their existence.Belgrade, by Lake Sava, 1995: protagonist Sergej, a Croatian, and his mate Nikola, a Bosnian, have returned from a lost war. They are given work as beach guards and are completely dependent on their female boss, a fraud. Sergej is looking for his mother and sister, who are in a refugee camp. He falls in love with Sonya, who is under the boss's thumb too and who prostitutes herself to support her family. Sonya's father is an alcoholic, her stepmother is trying desperately to get in the Guinness Book of Records by knitting a gigantic tablecloth. The economic crisis is forcing Nikola and Sergej to make different ethical choices.Three Summer Days is a very realistic portrait of several young people who are followed for three summer days on their ups, but above all on their downs. Scenario writer Gordan Mihic also penned e.g. Emir Kusturica's Time of the Gypsies (1989). This feature début by the young Mirjana Vukomanovic is the Yugoslavian entry for the best foreign-language Oscar.
