Regarde la mer, the longest and most ambitious of the three (originally programmed in the Cruel Machine programme), portrays the clash between the worlds of two women. A lonely young mother, living in a large house by the sea, gives a young traveller, Tatiana, permission to camp on her land. What links the two women is what they symbolise for each other: the mother, fascinated by Tatiana’s predatory attitude, yearns for her freedom and independence; Tatiana in turn is jealous of the settled young woman symbolised by the baby.
