Sur Place is the first Dutch feature with Katerina Golubeva playing the lead. This Russian actress lives in Lithuania, where she played the lead in _arunas Bartas' Trys Dienos (1989). She has also acted in the prize-winning film J'ai pas sommeil by Claire Denis and in the short Dutch films Solina by Jacco Groen. Sur Place is a melodrama set in the typical Amsterdam working-class district called De Pijp. The protagonist (Golubeva) is a mysterious foreign woman who is staying temporarily in a house there. Who she is and what her secret is are both slowly revealed in the reconstruction of a story about passion, revenge and war. The film was inspired by the early films of Marguerite Duras and Chantal Akerman, and is a homage to an area with very characteristic architecture and a special mood.
