A comedy with both realistic and fantastic aspects about a single mother and her rebellious son. Nina is a young mother who has to make ends meet in the housekeeping and just has to go out in the evening. Ten-year-old Martin dislikes his mother's disorganised and absent behaviour. He has an even greater dislike of school, but his greatest dislike is reserved for his mother's boyfriends. He would prefer to dream of his long-gone father who is reputed to be a noble desert fighter. This romantic picture is fed by his mother because she doesn't tell the true story of his father. Martin flees into his own world. Only his Arab friend Karim and the fisherman Tewfick have any sympathy with his fantasy world.
