Il futuro è obsoleto (‘the future is obsolete’) isa programme compiled by the Sicilian film- and video-makerscollective Cane CapoVolto of eight short Super8 films they made.The films by Cane CapoVolto could be regarded as post-modernvariations on several experimental film styles. Behind yourEyelids and Scraps Brakhage Stolen tackles theabstract hand-painted film work of avant-garde master StanBrakhage. The nice thing about these spoofs is that their qualityis just as high as the originals. Well-known experimental filmtechniques such as double exposure, single-frame shots, found-footage processing and solarisation are tackled in the shortironic films Sleeping Electricity, Endo und Nanoand Meatbeat Glamour. The Satanist cinephilia of CaneCapoVolto is not however restricted to experimental films: theextremes of the mondo, horror and porn genre are also mocked or,in their own terminology, ‘plagiarised’ (Angeli su dueRuote and Invasione). The latest film, Storiesof Brats, they describe as putting into practice vulgarsurrealism.
